Named after the legendary Morpho butterfly โ€” one of nature's most breathtaking creatures โ€” this kit captures the deep, iridescent magic of the ocean in a single frame. One wing glitters with layers of sapphire, cobalt and aqua crystal gems; the other blooms with real preserved periwinkle roses, teal hydrangea, navy dahlias, lime craspedia, and a constellation of dried botanicals in every shade of blue and teal. The result is a dramatic, jewel-toned artwork unlike anything you can buy in a store. No experience needed. Everything arrives in one beautiful box. Takes about 1.5 hours and lasts for years.

What are preserved flowers?

Preserved flowers are real, living flowers โ€” not artificial, not dried in the traditional sense. They are fresh blooms that have been treated with a special process that replaces their moisture with a preserving agent, keeping them soft, vibrant, and touchable for years.

Real flowers, held in time

Unlike dried flowers โ€” which shrink, become brittle, and lose their colour โ€” preserved flowers retain their original shape, softness, and vibrancy. Touch them and they feel like a fresh bloom. Look at them and they glow with the same depth of colour as the day they were cut.

The preservation process works by replacing the water inside each flower cell with a glycerin-based solution. This keeps the cell walls supple and flexible, so the petals stay soft and the colours stay true โ€” without any water, sunlight, or maintenance required.

A well-made preserved flower arrangement can last 3 to 5 years or longer when kept away from direct sunlight and humidity. Some pieces have been known to last a decade.

01

Harvest at Peak Bloom

Fresh flowers are cut at the exact moment they reach their most vibrant โ€” before any petal begins to fade. Timing is everything.

02

Glycerin or Silica Treatment

The flowers are submerged in a glycerin solution or buried in silica gel crystals. Over days, the preserving agent replaces the water inside each cell, locking the flower's structure in place.

03

Colour Infusion

Once preserved, flowers can be gently dyed to achieve colours that don't exist in nature โ€” deep blues, soft lavenders, blush pinks โ€” while retaining their natural texture and softness.

04

Dried and Ready to Create

The result is a flower that looks and feels almost fresh โ€” but will stay this way for years. No water. No wilting. Just beauty, held still.

A world of botanicals, curated for you

Each Petala kit contains a carefully selected mix of preserved and dried botanicals โ€” chosen not just for their beauty, but for how they work together as a composition. You'll find statement blooms, delicate fillers, textural accents, and colour bridges that make your finished piece look professionally designed, even if it's your first time.

Common botanicals you'll find in our kits include preserved roses (in natural and dyed colours), hydrangea clusters, gypsophila (baby's breath), statice, ageratum, craspedia (billy buttons), pampas grass, and dried seed pods โ€” each one real, each one unique.

How to care for your preserved flowers

Preserved flowers are low-maintenance โ€” but not no-maintenance. A few simple habits will keep your arrangement looking stunning for years to come.

Keep away from water

Preserved flowers are not waterproof. Even a light mist or high humidity can cause petals to soften, discolour, or develop mould. Never water them, and keep them away from bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor areas.

Avoid direct sunlight

UV light is the number one enemy of preserved flowers. Direct sun will fade colours within weeks. Display your arrangement in a bright room, but away from windows that receive direct sun โ€” indirect light is ideal.

Protect from humidity

High humidity (above 60%) can cause preserved flowers to absorb moisture from the air, making petals feel damp or sticky. Air-conditioned rooms are perfect. Avoid displaying near humidifiers, open windows in rain, or coastal areas with sea mist.

Handle with care

Preserved petals are more delicate than fresh flowers โ€” they can tear or bruise if handled roughly. If you need to move your arrangement, support it from the base. Avoid touching petals directly with oily or damp hands.

Dust gently

Over time, a light layer of dust may settle on your arrangement. Use a soft, dry paintbrush or a can of compressed air held at arm's length to gently remove dust. Never use a damp cloth or cleaning spray.

Enjoy for years

With proper care, your preserved flower arrangement will stay beautiful for 3 to 5 years โ€” sometimes longer. Some pieces have been known to last a decade. The better the conditions, the longer the beauty lasts.
